Ok, if you haven’t met these two… you need to drop what you’re doing and order lunch from The Fig! Stat!
Beatrice and David are the Mom & Son duo behind The Fig Bistro in Vernon and we’re pretty sure their hearts are made of 24 karat gold (and pure sandwich-making wizardry)!
When Covid-19 sent everyone into physical isolation, David and Beatrice’s hearts bled for their family in Romania where anyone over the age of 65 was ordered to stay indoors for 22 hours a day. This included Beatrice’s parents and, from so far away, there wasn’t much she and David could do for them.
So, they decided to feed everyone else’s parents/grandparents! FOR FREE!
“This is a very sensitive matter for all of us and we want to make sure that we are looking after our Seniors, as these past few weeks have been extremely difficult for them getting to the grocery store and finding what they need while trying to stay safe.” -David
The Fig launched a program where local seniors who need a little help or a little love, could receive a care package delivered to them. Hundreds of emails, phone calls and social media messages have rolled in with nominations for a seniors in need! “This has been an extremely emotional few weeks for us since launching the Free Meals for Seniors Program.” Watch the Global News story here. “The stories have been extremely emotional and they truly show exactly why we wanted to do this in the first place. We have provided over 300 meals so far and the numbers are continuing to grow daily. You have our word that we are committed to providing this service for as long as we can.”
We at DTO think this program is pretty freaking amazing! The Fig Bistro, along with most other businesses have been affected by the public’s Stay-Home request -and yet, they continue to give to others. We want to get behind them and support this amazing cause!
Our Seniors belong to us all. They are our friends, our parents, our aunts and uncles, our grandmas and grandpas; our childhood school teachers and caregivers…
